Not a chapter but a bonus
The Every Day Supernatural
Due to unavoidable life events, I wasn’t able to get the next chapter written in time to post today.
So instead you get a bonus — something on topic, but something unplanned.
One of the effects of these unavoidable life events has been exhaustion. I am incredibly tired.
I pray for sleep, as many do. I pray to wake rested, as many do.
But in the vein of the every day supernatural, let me share one unexpected boost I’ve experienced the past week: the Scriptures literally revive me, physically.
I’ve been trying to immerse myself more and more in the Word lately. I’m listening to David Suchet’s audio Bible readings. He came to Christ in his 40’s and longed to record an audio Bible. His passion infuses his reading.
I’ll listen to the Bible while I’m driving, while I’m cooking, while I’m working. Whenever I can find time to do so.
I’ve found that after listening for a while — maybe 15 minutes — I feel physically refreshed. Less tired. Less drained. More full.
I don’t feel the jittery surge of caffeine or adrenaline. It’s more of a quiet, soothing strength, a sense of some of the weariness washed away.
I also feel less cranky, less on edge, less emotionally drained.
I didn’t try to feel this way. In many ways it was unexpected. I’ve been reading and listening to the Bible my whole life. I thought I knew what the experience was like.
But I’ve never tried to listen to the Word so constantly, so consistently throughout the day.
It’s different than listening to podcasts, as wonderful as they are. It’s different than listening to sermons, as edifying as they can be. It’s even different than listening to worship music, as powerful as that can be.
It simply feels like life. Being refreshed. Being washed. Being just a bit more full of life.
His Word is continually working. These are the words of life, the words spoken out by the Author of Life. They are the revelation of the One who came to give us life abundantly.
I suppose it shouldn’t be surprising that they can refresh and reinvigorate a tired soul.
